How to Scan Paper Documents into PDF on Android
A readable PDF scan starts before you press the camera button. Lighting, page position and review have a larger effect on quality than aggressive filters.
Prepare the document
- Flatten folded corners and remove staples where safe.
- Use a plain background that contrasts with the paper.
- Clean the camera lens.
- Turn off reflections from lamps or windows.
- Arrange pages in the intended order before capture.
Capture each page
- Open the document scanner and allow camera access when requested.
- Hold the phone parallel to the page rather than at an angle.
- Keep all page corners visible with a small margin.
- Capture the page when text is sharp and shadows are minimal.
- Review the image and retake blurred or cut-off pages.
- Add remaining pages and export a multi-page PDF.
Lighting tips
Use bright, even light from more than one direction. A single lamp can create a dark phone shadow or glare on glossy paper. Natural daylight near a window works well when the page is not in direct sun.
Improve readability
Do not over-crop into text, signatures or stamps. High contrast can help plain black text but can remove light pencil marks, watermarks or colored details. Review important content before export.
File size and quality
More resolution usually means a larger PDF. For email or online forms, create a compressed copy after retaining a readable original. Check the recipient's file-size and resolution requirements first.
Privacy and sensitive documents
Scan only documents you are authorized to handle. Store exported files in a secure location, avoid public cloud folders unless intended and delete temporary photos or PDFs you no longer need.
Final checklist
- Every page is present and correctly ordered.
- Names, dates, numbers and signatures are readable.
- No fingers, desk items or unrelated documents appear in the frame.
- The PDF opens after export.
- The file name is descriptive but does not expose unnecessary sensitive information.
